Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE)

RISE Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) is a research and innovation partner for a more sustainable society. In international collaboration with industry, academia and the public sector, we ensure the competitiveness of the business community and contribute to a sustainable society. Our 2,800 employees, of which about 1/3 hold a PhD, support and promote all forms of innovation processes. RISE is an independent, research institute owned by the Swedish government that offers unique expertise and about 100 testbeds and demonstration facilities, instrumental in future-proofing technologies, products and services. RISE drives advanced research in a broad spectrum of areas in six divisions. We have a long history of acknowledged high-quality research and conducting assignments in each of these divisions. RISE is a non-profit organisation. RISE headquarters are located in Gothenburg, with employees all over Sweden.

Role in the project:

RISE has two primary roles in the project. One is to conduct an analysis of existing governance frameworks in the pilot regions, how they can be improved, and to develop or replicate new governance models allowing the transition towards social and environmental responsibility. The governance models should enable sufficient impacts and performances of the specific value chains and to allow replication across Europe. The second role is to perform environmental evaluation using a holistic Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach on scenarios of alternative by-product use as identified in the pilot regions. Results will highlight environmental hot-spots and can be used to guide improvement action toward more sustainable production methods.
